We have about 300 pounds this year. Will properly prune the trees in February and should have a better crop next year. In the meantime, this year's crop is sweet and meaty.
So we took a one week class on pecan orchard management at Texas A&M to learn how to prune and fertilize the trees. In 2013, our last off year before learning the techniques, we had 6 nuts on our 65 trees. That's six total, not per tree.
In 2014, our last good year before learning, we had the 300 pounds as noted above,
In 2015, we had about 65 pounds, not bad for an off year on trees that had its first maintenance ever.
In 2016, the good year, we topped 1000 pounds. Had to buy a freezer just to keep the nuts in. We also bought a cracker / sheller.
This year, if things progress normally, we are expecting to top 200 pounds in our off year,
No, we didn't grow these peaches. But, we did get a couple of crops of peaches from our trees in the fruit orchard. Between the two years, we got about 50 pounds of peaches that went well in our morning smoothies. There was probably 100 pounds grown but that was all we were able to get before the deer did. Hey, they got to eat also.
